ICP

Nytimes.com put together a slideshow of the exhibit we visited on Wednesday. 8 of 10 is my favorite, from the slideshow and in person.

MoMA

We went to the Museum of Modern Arts yesterday.  There was this one installation that was using falling water and flashing lights to create an effect. I took some long exposures.

The Fallen

Paul Fusco Robert F Kennedys Funeral Train

This is a really powerful slideshow with commentary from the photographer about his thoughts when he was taking the pictures.

NY Times multimedia section is a great resource.

Grand Central

Yesterday we took a field trip to Grand Central. I found the underground platforms to be where I got my best shots. Using shorter shutter speeds create the darker photos I like and in this case, created abstractions with the lights and piping. I did manage to take a long exposure in
the main terminal...

Silhouettes

My friends,Iona and Seychelle, and I were sitting on the back patio , and I saw the potential for a photograph in the lighting and backdrop that the window was providing. I like symmetry and contrast lighting. They were not this contrasty when I took them but I worked with the images on photoshop to get them like this. I would try for better sharpness next time.

pictures of the day: June 2. 2008

Nytimes.com pictures of they day really  grabbed my attention today; I realize I have been kind of neglecting current events in a sense since Ive been in Nyc. The lighting in these two were particularly striking to me.

May Days

Looking back on my first week at Parsons, I have nothing but great things to say. Living and learning in Manhattan is great. I get to know the city everyday on our field trips. So far we have been to Williamsburg, Chinatown and Harlem. I enjoyed the challenge of photographing in Harlem. I found that I stook out like a soar thumb, especially because I am huge and was carrying a camera. But I found that not many people were receptive to getting there photograph taken. Regardless, I took some of my strongest pictures of the week in there.
